Electrical system integrator Alewijnse Marine was responsible for the electrical and automation outfitting for the two new custom explorer yachts Poseidon and Arizona. As well as specifying and installing the control and power distribution systems, Alewijnse was also integrating the new hybrid propulsion systems together with dynamic positioning (DP) systems and four stabilisers.
The two 26-metre explorer yachts feature accommodation for up to 12 people and are designed for extensive cruising in the Baltic and around the coastline of Scandinavia. To ensure consistent comfort and safety in such a potentially hostile environment they feature highly advanced electronics and other electrical systems capable of reliable operation over extended periods of time and in all weather conditions. In order to sail in waters with broken ice, the vessels have reinforced steel hulls, plus aluminium superstructures. In addition each yacht’s design includes a ‘one-man control’ feature, making the vessel capable of sailing with only one crew member.
Customised hybrid systems
For these fully customised explorer yachts Alewijnse has designed a tailor-made hybrid system which consists of two diesel engines with shaft machines for energy generation and propulsion. The systems are also equipped with sets of batteries and variable speed DC generators for a zero-emission mode and silent propulsion.
The hybrid propulsion system is linked to an Alewijnse automation system, which handles everything from the interfacing to the hybrid propulsion system, monitoring, control and alarm execution as well as the Average Current (AC), Direct Current (DC), safety and lighting installations.

Alewijnse has extensive experience in the design of hybrid installations and the technical realisation of integrated electrical systems on board complex luxury yachts. Many new build and refitted yachts afloat today are equipped with Alewijnse electrical installations such as AV-IT networks, integrated bridges, navigation and communications equipment, and switchboards.
